Kaitlin Leung is the younger daughter in The Woks of Life family, working on the blog alongside older sister Sarah and parents Bill and Judy. As the youngest member of the family, you could say Kaitlin is a bit of an underdog in the kitchen. While notoriously unable to follow a recipe (usually preferring to freestyle it), Kaitlin has a knack for devising creative dishes with new and familiar flavors and for reverse engineering recipes for all of her favorite foods. Her most popular recipes include Homemade Chili Oil (the result of her condiments era), Fluffy Chinese Scrambled Eggs with Salted Chilies (her scrambled egg era), 1-2-3-4-5 Tofu (her vegan era), Mapo Tofu, Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, and Fluffy Milk Bread Cinnamon Rolls.
In the years when The Woks of Life was mostly a side hustle, Kaitlin worked as a brand strategy consultant for top global brands. Her background in brand strategy, design, storytelling, and her love of cooking for family and friends has helped make The Woks of Life into the internet’s go-to resource for Chinese cooking, trusted by millions of home cooks worldwide. These days, Kaitlin is learning all about video production and editing as the “Director” of The Woks of Life Youtube channel, where she keeps everyone humble with the bloopers at the end of each video. She also does her best to keep the family young, manning The Woks of Life’s social media accounts, despite knowing she is just a millennial who watches recycled TikToks.
With the publication of The Woks of Life: Recipes to Know and Love from a Chinese American Family, Kaitlin fulfilled a quietly held lifelong dream of becoming a writer and New York Times bestselling author alongside many of the chefs she grew up watching on TV. Whether she’s modernizing a traditional Chinese recipe or documenting a family favorite that spans generations and cultures, she’s always looking forward to what adventure the family can take on next.
